Due to unprecedented levels of demand for chilled and frozen ready meals Laila’s Fine Foods is seeking to expand our Maintenance Engineering team with the addition of a Fabrication Engineer.
Manufacturing and processing a diverse range of chilled and frozen ready meals from our site in Bispham, Lancashire we manufacture own label meals for some of the UK’s leading retailers.
This role is for a welder/fabricator with mechanical aptitude, utilising skills and competencies on site projects and refurbishments, general fabrication and engineering activities.
The successful candidate will be part of the Foyle Ingredients Maintenance team, assisting in the day-to-day and preventative maintenance programmes.
The shifts for the day shift operations are currently 07:00 – 15:00 and when Evening Shift is in place working hours between 15:00 – 23:00 carried out on a rotational basis, Monday to Saturday (working 5 days from 6). Totalling 45 hours per week with opportunities to undertake additional hours. Occasional preventative maintenance work on a Sunday.
Key responsibilities include;
i. Support the Operations Manager during site projects
ii. Referring to standards and procedures for plant construction/fabrication, repairs and maintenance.
iii. To comply with company health, safety, environmental and welfare policies.
iv. Adhere to company maintenance and repair standards.
v. Completing relevant documentation.
2. Fabrication and Welding
i. Qualified and competent in welding techniques such as MIG, TIG and MMA. Predominantly using mild and stainless steel and dissimilar types.
ii. Ability to fabricate and assemble fixed plant components from drawings; e.g. conveyors, platforms, handrails, floorplates, stairways, ladders etc, structural framework to mount equipment and machinery.
iii. Carry out all necessary cutting (including gas and plasma), grinding, dressing and drilling to enable the building of structures and the installation of plant equipment.
iv. Carry out equipment modifications.
3. Project and Engineering Support
i. Prioritise workload within agreed schedules.
ii. Contribute toward the design, development and modification of new and current site equipment.
iii. Plant removal and construction experience.
iv. Interact with sub-contractors during project or site R & M scope of work.
v. Flexible and willing attitude, assisting with other project scopes of work.
4. Site Maintenance and Repair Support
i. Carry out safety inspections of site fixed plant.
ii. Provide on-site engineering assistance as required.
iii. Carry out inspections of site fixed plant machinery during site visits.
iv. Carry out diagnosis and repair of fixed machinery faults.
v. To contribute toward increasing employee competency regarding plant preventative maintenance.
- Minimum NVQ level 3 in either Fabrication / Welding, Mechanical / Maintenance Engineering or alternatively Electrical Installation
- Previous experience in either TIG welding equipment, three phase electrical equipment or previous experience within a maintenance / mechanical role
- Flexible approach to working hours
- Ability to work in a team in a pressurised environment
- Multi-skilled and have experience in a similar role with a recognised apprenticeship
- Previous experience in a food processing environment
